Volunteer spotlight:
“This experience has taught me so much about community spirit and hard work.”
“Since I’m still in high school, it was hard to find volunteer work, but when I discovered Haagse Helpers and the MDT-Traject, so many doors opened for me. I spent time at the Conscious Kitchen and the Nijkamphoeve, and both taught me so much about community spirit and hard work. I’m a very social person and I’ve met so many great people and made wonderful memories while working. At the Conscious Kitchen, different people from various backgrounds come by every week, which helped me learn how to have much better conversations while serving food. At the Nijkamphoeve, I worked with people who had developmental or mental disabilities—something I’d never done before—which taught me understanding and patience. I feel like I’ve changed for the better through these experiences and developed new, positive traits that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
